Discover Hamburg beyond the well-known merchant and harbor romanticism. Our decolonial city tour invites you to get to know the city from a critical, polyphonic perspective and to visualize its colonial entanglements - past and present.
Together we will embark on a tour of central locations in Hamburg that are closely linked to colonial trade, exploitation and global power relations. We will talk about the role of Hamburg merchants in colonialism, about racist thought patterns that still have an impact today, as well as about resistance, self-empowerment and forgotten stories of people from colonized societies.
The tour combines historical classification with current debates: Who owns the public space? How do we deal with colonial street names, monuments and museum objects? And what does a decolonial perspective mean for how we live together today in a post-migrant city?
